Who we are

A studio built on the belief that a home should hold your life well

Dwelling Design is a residential interior design studio in Wenatchee, WA, led by founder and lead designer Laney Nelson.

Dwelling Design, formerly Victoria Lane Design

Designing homes that go beyond how they look

Dwelling Design is a full-service residential interior design studio serving Wenatchee, the surrounding valley and the wider Pacific Northwest. The work is rooted in creating interiors that support the way you live, foster connection with those you love most, and offer a retreat from the busyness of everyday life.

Because a true dwelling is a place you find rest, experience joy-filled moments, and fully live into what you were created for. A house can be beautiful and still not do that. The difference is usually made in a hundred quiet decisions: where a room opens, how the light is handled, whether the furniture invites you to sit down or asks you to be careful.

Meet Laney Nelson

Founder and lead designer

Laney leads every Dwelling Design project personally. That means the person you meet at the first conversation is the same person walking your site with your builder, presenting your finish selections, and standing in your living room on install day making sure the rug is straight.

Her approach is practical as much as it is aesthetic. Beautiful materials matter, but so does whether a walkway is wide enough, whether a fabric survives a household with children and dogs, and whether a decision made this month will hold up against a decision that has to be made in four.

Clients describe the experience as calm, which is the intention. A build or a renovation is genuinely stressful. A good designer should take weight off, not add to it.

How we think about design

Four things that shape every project

These are not rules so much as the instincts the studio keeps coming back to, whatever the size or shape of the project.

  • Function first, always. A room that photographs beautifully and works badly has failed. We start with how the space needs to perform, then make it beautiful.
  • Cohesion over trend. Every finish is chosen against every other finish. A grounded, enduring palette will outlast whatever is currently everywhere.
  • Decisions in the right order. Most costly mistakes are timing mistakes. We sequence choices so each one is made when there is still room to change it.
  • A home should feel collected. Layering, texture and a few personal pieces keep a house from reading like it was ordered all at once, because the best homes never are.

In their words

In this world that is so often stressful, Laney created a space for us to relax and restore. Her smile and calm confidence made the whole experience a pleasure.

Where we work

Rooted in the Wenatchee valley

We design with this region's light, landscape and pace of life in mind, from riverfront neighbourhoods to hillside lots with long valley views, lake homes north of here and mountain houses up the river. Being local means we can be on your site when it matters, and it means we already know how these houses behave through the seasons.

Good questions

About the studio, answered

Who is the designer behind Dwelling Design?

Laney Nelson is the founder and lead designer of Dwelling Design. She leads every project personally, from the first conversation through selections, furnishing and install, so you are working with the same designer the whole way through rather than being handed off.

Why did Victoria Lane Design become Dwelling Design?

The name changed to reflect what the work had become. A dwelling is more than a house, and the studio's focus had grown into designing whole homes that support how a household actually lives. The team, the approach and the designer are the same.

What kind of projects does the studio take on?

Residential work only: new construction, remodels, full-home furnishing and design consulting. Projects range from a single room that needs to be resolved to a house designed and furnished from the ground up.

Do you work outside of Wenatchee?

Yes. The studio is based in Wenatchee and regularly designs for homeowners in East Wenatchee, Lake Chelan, Leavenworth, Quincy and across the Greater Pacific Northwest. Projects further afield are structured around fewer, longer site visits.
